From the A4 Milan-Venice motorway
- Exit the A4 motorway at the Verona Sud exit and once past the toll station take the left-most lane and head for the underpass.
- Continue straight ahead for about one kilometre (towards the city centre).
- After passing under the railway bridge (eight arches) you will find yourself at the Porta Nuova junction in full view of the 16th century city walls (built during the Venetian domination), which will be visible straight ahead for motorists arriving from Verona Sud.
- At the junction, proceed straight ahead passing slightly to the right of the gate. Just after the gate turn left onto the inner city ring road (Via Oriani), a road that runs alongside the fortified city walls (on your left you will see a green space with talls trees).
- At the second set of traffic lights turn right (Corso Porta Palio) and proceed straight ahead (you will skirt Castel Vecchio, a 13th century fortification of the Communal period) until the road makes a sharp turn to the left at another of the city's gates - Porta Borsari (an ancient Roman gate built in the 1st century AD); from here head towards the bridge (Ponte della Vittoria).
- Cross the river Adige and just past the bridge turn right onto the Lungadige embankment; find a parking space before you get to the next bridge.
- Continue on foot (you're at the Ponte Garibaldi bridge) because only pedestrians and residents can enter the old city centre by car.
From the A22 Brenner-Modena motorway
- Exit the A22 motorway at the Verona Nord exit and once past the toll station head for the city centre.
- Take the bypass and drive its entire length (about 7 km); towards the end - the last 100 metres - keep in the left-most lane.
- At the traffic lights proceed straight ahead (on your right you will see a green area with tall trees).
- At the next set of traffic lights turn right and drive round Porta Palio gate (belonging to the 16th century city walls built during the Venetian domination), then take the widest tree-lined avenue.
- Proceed straight ahead until the road makes a sharp turn to the left at another of the city's gates - Porta Borsari (an ancient Roman gate built in the 1st century AD); from here head towards the bridge (Ponte della Vittoria).
- Cross the river Adige and just past the bridge turn right onto the Lungadige embankment; find a parking space before you get to the next bridge.
- Continue on foot (you're at the Ponte Garibaldi bridge) because only pedestrians and residents can enter the old city centre by car.
